Halloween Fun: Lovecraft and King Manor
Leaves are changing color. Birds sound louder. The night comes earlier. The air carries the scent of the turning season. Shadows hold the promise of the unknown. Autumn has arrived, and Halloween is approaching.
This year, I’ll be celebrating the holiday by presenting on writer H. P. Lovecraft and his relationship with New York City at the King Manor Museum in Jamaica, Queens, on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. I can’t wait to talk with an audience about the weird fiction author and his adventures (and mishaps) in the metropolitan region.
King Manor is the former home of Rufus King, a signatory of the United States Constitution, a Federalist politician, and a minister to Great Britain under successive presidents beginning with George Washington himself. Lovecraft visited King Manor on two occasions in the autumn of 1925 and described the site as “one of the major discoveries of all [his] New-York explorations.” Guided tours will be offered throughout the day.
Following my event, film historian and the King Manor’s own Abigail Waldron will discuss her new and first book, Queer Screams. I’m honored to be sharing the program with her and excited to hear her analysis of a few horror classics.
The last Saturday in October is looking to be a great afternoon for Halloween lovers at the King Manor Museum. Best of all: it’s free!
