Re-Encountering Ebenezer: A Holiday Read
This time of year, I always try to read a work by Charles Dickens. I associate his Victorian novels with chilly days and early nights. Recently, I reread A Christmas Carol, one of the more beloved and adapted pieces of English literature.
I’ll refrain from gushing about the characters, plot, and imagery of the novel. Simply put, I found the book enchanting.
If you’ve never read A Christmas Carol, pick up a copy for yourself while doing your Christmas shopping. If you’ve read it, dust off your copy. Regardless, you’ll quickly understand why Dickens still captivates book lovers.
Follow Ebenezer Scrooge’s vow: “I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the Past, the Present, and the Future. The Spirits of all Three shall strive within me.”
