Washington Irving: An Autumn Rendezvous
During the past several weeks, I have been spending an usual amount of time researching and contemplating the first American writer to stand on the international stage–Washington Irving, who penned such beloved classics as “Rip Van Winkle” and “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.”
Later this fall, I’ll be participating in a program on Irving and his ghost stories. I’m excited to tackle a new subject and discuss a literary icon. Unfortunately, I can’t reveal any further specifics. Stay tuned.
In the meantime, I suggest stopping by your local bookstore or library and picking up a selection of Irving’s tales (Penguin Books released a fine collection in 2014). You’ll quickly understand why readers have enjoyed Irving’s work for two hundred years.
