Little City Books: An Evening in Hoboken

On the evening of April 4, 2018, Little City Books in Hoboken, New Jersey invited me to talk about my book, Left Bank of the Hudson (Fordham University Press), and its larger themes of artists, cities, and gentrification.

DJ Trouble from WFMU (91.1FM) served as a sharp and engaging moderator for the event. (Fun fact: Trouble hosted me on her radio program, This is the Modern World, in early February 2018.)

The crowd quickly filled this wonderful bookstore. By the end of the night, it was standing room only. A great mix of people: longtime residents of Hoboken and Hudson County, recent arrivals, artists, creative types, book lovers, and curious shoppers.

DJ Trouble and I shared a wonderful conversation. She managed to distill my book, bring out its most interesting themes, and challenge my own ideas.

After our back-and-forth, Trouble and I opened up the floor to the audience. The crowd was eager to discuss the travails of the local arts scene, their memories of 111 1st Street, and the state of culture in America. Unfortunately, we ran out of time. The talk could have lasted for hours.

My evening at Little City Books marked my twentieth book event. It stands as one of the more memorable and enjoyable for this author. I hope that the audience had an equally fun night.
